Alex tied for first place in his Cub Scout pack tonight in the annual pinewood derby race. A tie is very unusual, and the gentleman who provided the track and timing said he’d never had that happen before. This is a tie across four races, down to a hundredth of a second.
The final outcome was a surprise, because the first three heats he placed 2nd and 3rd, running against the other boys in his den. But a minor adjustment to the right front wheel must have made a difference, because the next four races, which were heats in the finals, he placed 2nd, 2nd, 1st, and 1st. The third of those heats is probably where he pulled it out, as his car won easily, by over two car lengths.
We put a lot of time into the car this year, and the effort paid off.
